A few years ago, I witnessed something rare: a farewell that felt like a love letter.
Rocco, a waiter at Melbourne’s iconic Pellegrini’s Espresso Bar, retired after 50 years of service. On his last day, people lined Bourke Street with flowers in hand—not just to say goodbye, but to say thank you.
Thank you for the granitas, the pasta, the warm greetings. But mostly? Thank you for how he made them feel.
It made me pause.
When your final day comes, will they bring flowers? Will the people you served miss you?
I’ve been journaling each morning using a question from Robin Sharma: “What will they say in the end?”
It’s confronting. But it’s clarifying.
Would they say that you led with empathy? That you were consistently all in and made everyone feel like they mattered? That people felt better, braver, or more grounded simply because you were in the room?
This is the heart of the 5D Leadership Model. It’s not about titles, dashboards, or KPIs. It’s about presence. And impact. And the emotional imprint you leave behind.
So ask yourself: Are you building a career—or a legacy?
